Boaties to benefit from St Helens Beach boat ramp upgrade
A $1.7 million contract has been awarded to upgrade the popular St Helens Beach boat ramp.
Main Roads and Ports Minister Mark Bailey announced that experienced Queensland marine civil contractor, Pensar Building had been awarded the contract to complete the works.
“Works include upgrades to the existing Carpet Snake Point boat ramp and access causeway, including the construction of a rock groyne which will greatly benefit boaties and fisherman in the local community,” Mr Bailey said.
“This will raise the height and increase the slope of the ramp, improving access during the high tide cycle and making it easier to launch.
“A rock groyne will also be constructed on the north side to protect the ramp from wind and wave action.
“The existing causeway will be improved and raised as well to meet the newly upgraded ramp.
“Mackay Regional Council have already completed construction of a new carpark to the southwest and will deliver the remaining road access works after the boat ramp works are completed.”
The Carpet Snake Point boat ramp will be closed during the construction works.
Works are set to commence in early June 2017, with completion expected to be finalised by late October, weather permitting.
Funding for the project will be provided through the Queensland Government’s Marine Infrastructure Fund.
