NRL Double Header set to be another Suncorp Stadium blockbuster

Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones has joined with some of the biggest names in rugby league to get behind Queensland’s footy heroes ahead of this weekend’s NRL Double Header at Suncorp Stadium.

Ms Jones was joined by Queensland rugby league legends Mal Meninga, Kevin Walters, Justin Hodges and Darius Boyd in Brisbane’s Queen Street mall to promote Saturday’s blockbuster event.

“The Double Header provides an exciting opportunity for fans from across the country to enjoy a weekend in Brisbane and two blockbuster games in Australia’s best rugby league stadium,” Ms Jones said.

“Up to 45,000 passionate rugby league fans are expected to fill Suncorp Stadium for the two games this Saturday.

“There’s no question Queenslanders are passionate about our rugby league.

“I am urging all Queensland NRL supporters to get behind our local teams this weekend, with the Gold Coast Titans set to take on the Melbourne Storm and the Brisbane Broncos taking on the Manly Sea Eagles.”

Ms Jones said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to support the NRL Double Header, through Tourism and Events Queensland.

“I am so pleased our Government has been able to assist in securing this blockbuster event in Queensland for the second year in a row,” she said.

“This event is a major coup for Queensland which is expected to inject around $8 million into our economy.

“It cements our reputation as a leading destination for marquee sports events and is a great addition to the Tourism and Events Queensland calendar.

“Major events like this contribute more than $100 million to Brisbane’s growing economy every year and together with our wider tourism industry supports 64,700 local jobs.”

Suncorp Stadium General Manager, Alan Graham urged fans to take advantage of the free public transport services and arrive early, so as not to miss a minute of the Double Header action.

“Free public transport commences at 3.30pm ensuring fans have plenty of time to be in their seats for the first game (Storm v Titans) which kicks off at 5.30pm,” Mr Graham said.

“Plan your travel and arrive early for what promises to be a great night of entertainment.”

The NRL Brisbane Double Header is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of the Major Events portfolio and falls under NRL’s Indigenous Round.
