Police Minister Mark Ryan has announced the continuation of Taskforce Maxima within a restructured State Crime Command.

“The dedicated work of Taskforce Maxima will continue as a standing unit within the new permanent Organised Crime Gangs Group which will focus on all forms of organised crime,” Minister Ryan said.

“In fact, this new structure means there is an ability to dedicate more resources to Taskforce Maxima under the combined power of the new group when needed, ensuring our communities are kept safe from OMCGs.

“Since its inception Taskforce Maxima has arrested 3457 people on 9988 offences.

“During this time more than $18 million in cash and assets has been seized or has been restrained as a result of matters referred to the Crime and Corruption Commission.

“Taskforce Maxima has seized drugs to the estimated value of $13.3 million including more than $3.5 million in ice.

“The dedicated officers at Taskforce Maxima have also seized 321 weapons removing them from Queensland streets.”

Acting Commissioner Peter Martin said the new structure would take effect from May 1.

“Not only will there be no reduction in resources dedicated to Taskforce Maxima, the Queensland Police Service will continue to prioritise the targeting of outlaw motorcycle gangs,” Acting Commissioner Martin said.

In addition to the new Organised Crime Gangs Group, the new five-group model for State Crime Command will include the Child Abuse and Sexual Crimes Group, Drug and Serious Crimes Group, Financial and Cyber Crimes Group and the Homicide Group.
