Cunnamulla and Charleville locals called to tender for school work

The Queensland Government is calling on local companies to tender for school works in Charleville and Cunnamulla.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the projects were delivering on the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to jobs and education, and encouraged locals to put their hand up to do the work.

“Schools are at the heart of our communities, so it makes sense for local businesses to look after local schools wherever possible,” Mr de Brenni said.

“We’re calling for tenders for a new undercover area between blocks A and B at Charleville State High School to provide some shade for students.

“I’d encourage local businesses to get involved.”

The Charleville SHS project is being funded through the Palaszczuk Government’s $180 million Significant Regional Infrastructure Projects Program, which is fast-tracking key economic and social infrastructure projects throughout regional Queensland.

There are also upgrades in store for Cunnamulla State School, with refurbishments planned for the science, home economics and art blocks.

“The refurbishment will include painting works, replacing blinds, lights, and floor coverings, and installing stainless steel benches with sinks and storage cabinets,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Gas cooktops and electric ovens will also be installed in the home economics classroom.

“This project is open to any company that’s previously pre-qualified under the PQC system, so I’d encourage any locals who are on the PQC list to tender.

“These works are not just about improving our kids’ learning environments, they’re also about providing jobs for Queenslanders.

“So if you’re not on the prequalified list, get in touch with the Department of Housing and Public Works to find out how to qualify.”

Firms wishing to qualify for Government building and construction work and to identify open tenders are encouraged to log onto www.qld.gov.au/gov/building-services or speak with Building and Asset Services on 3008 3392.
