Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Training and Skills
The Honourable Yvette D'Ath
I send my best wishes to Justice Susan Kiefel, as she is sworn in today as Australia’s first female Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia.
The cabinet meeting in Rockhampton meant I was unable to accept an invitation to attend the historic ceremony in Canberra, but, along with all Queenslanders, I congratulate Justice Kiefel on this latest honour in her distinguished and inspiring career.
Much has been written about Justice Kiefel’s path to the highest judicial office in the country.
However, as a fellow Queenslander who left school at age 15, before returning to study later in life, I hope Justice Kiefel’s career serves as an inspiration to others.
