Major work kicks off on new Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass
The Palaszczuk Government and Scenic Rim Regional Council are driving ahead with the $27.5 million Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass.
Acting Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning Jackie Trad joined Mayor Greg Christensen for the start of major works.
“It’s great to be back in Beaudesert for the start of major works on the Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass,” Ms Trad said.
“The Palaszczuk Government and local council are investing in this major infrastructure project to support growth in the Scenic Rim area.
“We’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of vehicles travelling through Beaudesert over the last few years with more than 13,000 vehicles passing through the township per day.
“This has been negatively impacting on local traffic and the Beaudesert bypass will provide an alternative route for these vehicles not intending to stop in town.
“It will provide immediate and long-term economic and employment benefits by attracting investment and supporting jobs, with the bypass expected to support approximately 85 jobs in the region during construction.
“The bypass is also critical to the ongoing development of the Bromelton State Development Area, which is a 15,000-hectare site located six kilometres west of the town that has the potential to create up to 18,000 jobs.”
Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said he was excited by the start of such a significant project, which would support the $30 million SCT Logistics freight terminal at Bromelton and help drive further development in the region.
"Construction of the town centre bypass is vital for Beaudesert and will also enable Council to progress with its master plan to revitalise the town centre," Mr Christensen said.
"The town centre bypass will provide a more efficient route and has a long-term role as part of the local Beaudesert road network."
The Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass will start at the intersection of the Mount Lindesay Highway at Helen Street and connect to Bromelton Street (Beaudesert–Boonah Road), providing new signalised intersections at each end. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, weather permitting.
SEE Civil Pty Ltd were awarded the construction contract in November last year, with site establishment undertaken before Christmas.
