Rugby heaven set to descend on Brisbane

The three month countdown to the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens kicked off with the tournament draw held at Queen Street Mall this morning.
Treasurer and Minister for Sport Curtis Pitt said the tournament would become a signature event for rugby fans the world over.
“The tournament draw marks three months until rugby fans from across the globe flock to the best rugby stadium in Australia to celebrate world-class rugby,” Mr Pitt said.
“Fourteen teams will contest the Brisbane Global Tens competition at Suncorp Stadium over two days in February.
“The Brisbane Global Rugby Tens is the first of its kind and will be a highlight on our events calendar in 2017, giving Brisbane an opportunity to grow a globally unique competition as a signature event for our state.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to securing events that provide an economic boost to Queensland and we know this tournament will be a huge success.”
The Brisbane Global Tens includes every Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby franchise, plus four invitational teams from four different nations.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said the tournament would showcase Queensland to the world.
“The Brisbane Global Rugby Tens will showcase Brisbane and Queensland to a global audience and draw visitors from across the country and around the world,” Ms Jones said.
“Major events like this are crucial to growing Queensland’s visitor economy and we’re proud to support the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens through Tourism and Events Queensland.
“Tourism and Events Queensland’s events calendar is worth more than $460 million to our state, creating jobs in regions across Queensland.”
