The highly-anticipated Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass is a step closer to fruition after SEE Civil Pty Ltd was awarded the construction tender.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey who visited Beaudesert today for the announcement said the successful contractor was gearing up crews and machinery to hit the ground running on the $27.5 million project.

“Work is set to start around mid-January on the 1.5km, two-lane road to ensure completion by the end of next year, weather permitting,” Mr Bailey said.

“Early works have been underway on the corridor from earlier this year, getting the site prepared for major works to ensure we get on with the job as soon as possible so the community can take advantage of its benefits.

“We have already completed some minor works, including service relocations for water, electricity, sewerage and telecommunications, as well as vegetation clearing and installing fencing.

Minister Bailey said the bypass would support approximately 85 jobs during construction.

“The bypass is the next step to supporting growing freight demands and jumpstarting critical development in the region,” Mr Bailey said.

“When it opens in 2017, the Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass is expected to be used by more than 3000 vehicles per day, with many of these being heavy freight vehicles.”

The Beaudesert Town Centre Bypass will start at the intersection of the Mount Lindesay Highway at Helen Street and connect to Bromelton Street (Beaudesert–Boonah Road), providing new signalised intersections at each end.

Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor Greg Christensen said he was excited by the start of such a significant project within Scenic Rim.

“The town centre bypass will provide a more efficient, alternative route and has a long-term role as part of the local Beaudesert road network,” Cr Christensen said.

“Construction of the town centre bypass is vital for Beaudesert and will enable council to progress with the master plan to revitalise the town centre.

“John Mongard Landscape Architects has been engaged to undertake a master planning process for the Beaudesert town centre, in collaboration with the local community, as part of the Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages initiative.

“The purpose of this master plan is to provide a long-term vision for the future look and feel of the principal population and commercial activity centres of the Scenic Rim, including Beaudesert.”
