League legends join Industrial Relations Minister to tackle work safety

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace today joined Queensland Safety Ambassador Shane Webcke and Asbestos Awareness Ambassador Trevor Gillmeister at a breakfast in Brisbane to mark the start of Safe Work Month.

The free breakfast at King George Square included fitness demos, health checks and plenty of giveaways, but it had a serious message - that workplace safety must be a priority for every Queenslander.

“The breakfast is always a great start to Safe Work Month, which carries a very important message - that we all are responsible for work safety and shouldn’t just leave it up to someone else," Ms Grace said.

“Queensland has a falling workplace injury rate but we want our workplaces to be even safer.

"This brekky highlights the fact that work safety is important for all workers - whether they make a living on the land, in a factory, on a construction site or in an office building.

"There will be plenty of similar events to this one throughout Queensland during Safe Work Month, with loads of information available to the public on how to prevent injuries and tragedies in our workplaces.”

Ms Grace said Safe Work Month would also feature industry forums and toolbox talks to get everyone thinking about how to do their jobs safely, while looking at ways to bring a healthier lifestyle into their working days.

“All workers have the right to go home safe at the end of a day’s work,” she said.

“Workplace safety is about your families and loved ones, and being able to go home to them safely every day."
