Events to boost tourism in Queensland’s regions

Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones announced $252,000 in funding for 14 events through Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).

Ms Jones said support for regional events was helping to grow tourism across the state.

“Events play an important role in driving tourism and supporting local economies,” she said.

“They act as a drawcard that helps to promote our beautiful destinations to visitors from across Australia and around the world.

“Our support for events is an investment as they generate economic activity for local communities.”

Ms Jones said since its launch in May last year, Tourism and Events Queensland’s (TEQ) destination events funding program had provided support for 91 events across the State.

“TEQ’s Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP) is an important element of the Government’s investment in the tourism industry,” she said.

“Following the latest round of grants, we have now invested more than $3.7 million in events throughout Queensland.

“There are 14 successful events as part of the latest QDEP round including First Coat Festival in Southern Queensland Country which is being funded for the first time.

“QDEP events are an important complement to TEQ’s Major Events calendar that showcases our state to visitors.”

QDEP Round 5 is currently open for event submissions which close on Wednesday 19 October 2016.
