Queensland Cricket to Join the Drive to Save Lives

Cricket players and fans are being encouraged to be drivers of change as part of a new road safety partnership between the Queensland Government and Queensland Cricket.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey today announced the partnership at Allan Border Field joined by Queensland Cricketers Luke Feldman and Delissa Kimmince from the Brisbane Heat, Chris Hartley from the Queensland Bulls and Kirby Shor from the Queensland Fire.

Mr Bailey welcomed Queensland Cricket’s commitment to improving the safety of all road users, and encouraged the community to be part of the team.

“I’m delighted Queensland Cricket, along with the more than 230,000 players of the sport around the State, is batting for the safety of Queenslanders,” Mr Bailey said

“As part of the partnership, Queensland Cricket will support TMR’s Join the Drive to Save Lives initiative through social media and during games this summer across the Brisbane Heat, Queensland Bulls and Queensland Fire teams.”

Mr Bailey said it was a great opportunity to spread a positive road safety message with the help of Queensland Cricket.

“Our long-term vision for Queensland is zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads, and we need to continue to raise awareness that unacceptable behaviors behind the wheel can have devastating and tragic consequences,” Mr Bailey said.

“Our aim is to challenge the perception that trauma is an acceptable consequence of daily use of our roads - serious crashes are preventable if we all commit to safer driving.

“Using social media platforms and encouraging community participation and engagement, we will see sports fans from around the State show their support for road safety as part of this partnership.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and if we all take action and to keep demanding that road safety is a priority, this can be a reality.”
