Locals have their first chance to have a say from tomorrow (Saturday, 11 June) on the proposed $500 million wind farm at Coopers Gap near Kingaroy.

Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dr Anthony Lynham said comment opened tomorrow on draft terms of reference for the project’s environmental impact statement (EIS).

“Consultation is a very important part of the EIS and I encourage people to take a look at terms of reference and have their say,” he said.

“There’ll be more opportunity down the track as well to comment on the EIS once it’s submitted to the independent Co-ordinator-General.”

AGL Energy Limited proposes to build and operate a wind farm that could potentially supply power to an estimated 180,000 households from its installed capacity of 350MW and up to 115 wind turbines.

The project could create up to 350 construction jobs and ongoing employment for up to 20 people in the region. The project was declared a co-ordinated project earlier this week.

Terms of reference are available online and in local libraries. For more information visit www.dsd.qld.gov.au.

Public comment opens on Saturday, June 11 and closes on July 11.
