Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services
The Honourable Cameron Dick
Minister officially opens Moura Community Hospital
Queensland’s first modular hospital was today officially opened in Moura.
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said the $6 million Moura Community Hospital stood as a tribute to the spirit of the community.
“Today is a very exciting day for the Moura community as we celebrate the opening of a project that was community driven,” Mr Dick said.
“The former hospital was built in the 1970s and no longer had the appropriate facilities to properly service this community.
“The Moura Community Hospital is the first modular hospital in Queensland, built on the Gold Coast and transported up by several trucks.
“This is a perfect example of an effective rural health service, blending 24/7 emergency medical facilities with integrated community health services, a new oral health space and increased telehealth capacity.
“The Emergency Department also has a dedicated Telehealth Emergency Medicine Support Unit, which links Moura clinicians with specialists in Rockhampton, Emerald or further afield to provide advice and reduce the need for unnecessary patient travel.”
“Moura is the first modular hospital which has been a great success and we are now rolling out modular health facilities around the state including at Alpha, Aramac and Aurukun.”
Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service Board Chair Charles Ware said the new hospital was the result of a successful collaboration between the HHS and the community.
“In early 2013 residents made it very clear they were not happy with plans to downgrade the old hospital.
“The Board listened carefully to that feedback and promised to work closely with residents to come up with a plan for the future of healthcare in Moura.
“The result is a contemporary new building designed to meet today’s healthcare standards.”
The hospital design and layout of the hospital site allows for expansion in the future should demand increase.
