34,500 jobs created in Queensland since State Election
Queensland added 4,000 jobs in September, according to new ABS data which shows a total of 34,500 jobs have been created since the State Election.
Treasurer and Minister for Employment Curtis Pitt said since the Palaszczuk Government came to power, Queensland had recorded eight consecutive monthly rises in employment.
“According to the ABS, Queensland’s trend unemployment rate was unchanged in September 2015 at 6.3 per cent,” he said.
“Seasonally adjusted, the unemployment rate in Queensland dropped from 6.4 per cent in August to 6.3 per cent in September.
“In trend terms, 34,500 jobs have been created in Queensland in the eight months since January.
“This consists of a 10,600 person rise in full-time and a 23,900 person rise in part-time employment. That’s around 1,320 full-time jobs created per month.
“This record is in stark contrast to the shameful record of the LNP when it was in government.
“In trend terms between March 2012 and January 2015 there were 10,700 full-time jobs lost in Queensland, or around 310 full-time jobs lost per month.”
Mr Pitt said since the State Election, the labour force participation rate in Queensland had increased by 0.3 per cent.
“The increased participation rate is a sign Queenslanders are more confident about gaining employment, as economic conditions in Queensland improve,” he said.
“The total number of unemployed people in Queensland has fallen since the State Election as our positive economic agenda helps more Queenslanders back to work.
“But we know we have more work to do to give Queenslanders more employment opportunities and a chance to participate in the economy.”
