Queenslanders are encouraged to get involved in more than 40 Carers Week events from 11 to 17 October to show they care.
Disability Services and Seniors Minister Coralee O’Rourke said there were more than half a million people in Queensland dedicating their time, energy and love to care for a friend, partner or family member.
“Carers not only do an amazing job supporting the people they care for, but also make a huge contribution to the community,” Minister O’Rourke said.
“This year’s theme ‘Show you Care’ encourages the community to pledge their support to raise awareness about the importance of carers and the diversity of their roles.
“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support Carers Week and provided sponsorship of $10,400 to Carers Queensland to host a range of regional activities.
“These activities include carer-friendly business awards, expos, lunches, BBQs and high teas, intended to draw attention to who carers are, what they do and the type of supports and services that are available to them.”
Carers Queensland CEO Debra Cottrell said the organisation would be hosting a range of events throughout the week and were encouraging the community to get involved.
“With over 40 events being planned across the state, we are very grateful for the Queensland Government’s support during Carers Week,” Ms Cottrell said.
“We are excited to raise awareness for our dedicated carers, and look forward to releasing our annual Quality of Life Audit of carers in Queensland during the celebration.”
