Nine new firies for Queensland
The Palaszczuk Labor Government is continuing to boost frontline fire services across Queensland, with nine new firies joining the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services today.
Capalaba MP Don Brown, representing Acting Fire and Emergency Services Minister Bill Byrne at today’s graduation ceremony, said the new firies would take up positions right across the state.
“These seven men and two women are embarking on challenging careers dedicated to keeping Queenslanders safe,” Mr Brown said.
“During their intense training program, they’ve proven themselves to be courageous, determined and passionate about protecting their communities.
“Four of our new firies will be stationed on the Gold Coast, two in Brisbane and one each in Ipswich, Mount Isa and the Sunshine Coast.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to boosting frontline fire services across the state – and this is just one way we are delivering on that commitment.”
QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll said it was an exciting time for the firefighters as they began their careers, but also for QFES as it welcomed the new officers.
"Our firefighter recruits will enrich our organisation and the communities they serve with their skills, experience and commitment," Commissioner Carroll said.
"They come from diverse backgrounds, with a former police officer, paramedic, teacher and park ranger among the class graduating today.
"The recruits have worked hard to meet the high standards of the training program, gaining specialist skills in firefighting, road crash rescue, technical rescue and managing hazardous materials, and they will continue their studies over the next two and a half years.
Since the Palaszczuk Labor Government was elected, 76 new firefighters have joined the ranks of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
