Minister for Education, Training and Employment
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek
Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek and Member for Burleigh Michael Hart made a surprise visit to Burleigh State School today to congratulate two very special Prep teacher aides.
Between them, teacher aides Liza McNamara and Leanne Glenn have been working as teacher aides for more than half a century.
“With 28 and 24 years’ experience respectively, Liza and Leanne have helped educate generations of young Queenslanders to become the best they can be,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Leanne has spent her entire teacher aide career right here at Burleigh Heads, and Liza has been with the school for 15 years.
“Together they would have assisted countless children to grow and understand the world around them, setting up the foundations of a life-long passion for learning.”

Mr Langbroek said next year’s Prep students in the Gold Coast region would benefit from more teacher aide support, creating a stronger foundation and better learning experience, as part of the Queensland Government’s strong plan for education.
“This Government has a strong plan to revitalise frontline services and in 2015 we’ll deliver more than 550 Prep teacher aide hours per week in Gold Coast schools,” Mr Langbroek said.
“This additional teacher aide support for prep students is delivering on our election promise to invest $54 million over four-years for more Prep teacher aides in Queensland.
“Thousands of Preppies in state schools across Queensland are already benefitting from the additional support available each day, and we’re ensuring this benefit continues throughout 2015.
Mr Hart said two primary schools in the Burleigh electorate would directly reap the rewards of extra teacher aide time in 2015.
“I welcome the Government’s funding for local primary schools to share in more than 60 additional Prep teacher aide hours each week,” Mr Hart said.
“Burleigh Heads State School will receive funding for an additional 21.7 hours per week, giving Preppies more contact time with talented educators like Liza and Leanne.
“Caningeraba State School is also set to receive 43.2 extra Prep teacher aide hours per week in 2015.”
Mr Langbroek said the extra Prep aide time had already provided significant benefits to Queensland children.
“We know how important it is to invest in the early years of school to set the foundation for life-long learning and success,” Mr Langbroek said.
“In 2015 we will deliver an additional 2,250 Prep teacher aide hours per week in Queensland state schools.”
