Minister for Energy and Water Supply
The Honourable Mark McArdle

Paddle craft enthusiasts who use one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular dams now have new trailer parking, delivering on the Newman Government’s commitment to provide Queenslanders with greater recreational access to the state’s lakes.

Energy and Water Supply Minister Mark McArdle said the extra parking at the Ewan Maddock Dam was one outcome from the most extensive review of South East Queensland’s dams and catchments ever undertaken.

“The dam is a popular destination for paddle craft users and community feedback during the review highlighted the need for extra trailer parking,” Mr McArdle said.

“To address this, Seqwater has changed the main car park so that it now has designated car and trailer parking spots.

“The bus parking area has also been improved.

“Tourism is one of the four pillars of the economy, which we promised at the election to grow and improvements to infrastructure like the car park help strengthen that industry.”

Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer, Peter Dennis said community feedback was a critical part of the ongoing recreation review.

“Recreation activities at Ewen Maddock Dam and Lake Baroon were reviewed together, with high community interest in these lakes,” Mr Dennis said.

“As a result of feedback the car park area now has dedicated placed for 4-5 cars with trailers (depending on size) in addition to the existing parking available to cars and horse floats.”

The Seqwater recreation review began just over six months ago and so far more than 3,000 organisations and individuals have taken the opportunity to help shape the future of recreation at Seqwater’s dams and catchments.

Mr McArdle said the success of the review is demonstrated by the fact that a record 2.6 million people visited Seqwater recreation sites in 2013.
