Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing
The Honourable Steve Dickson
Get in now to secure Cooloola camping spots
National Parks Minister Steve Dickson is reminding holidaymakers who will flock to Cooloola on the Sunshine Coast for the September school break to book their camping spot as soon as possible.
Mr Dickson said campers would save time and money by booking their access permits online through the ParksQ website.
“The Newman Government is ensuring our pristine national parks are easier and more accessible for all Queensland residents and visitors to enjoy,” Mr Dickson said.
“ParksQ will make it simple to secure a site and also alert if an area is full or inaccessible, while Queensland Parks and Wildlife (QPWS) staff can contact visitors in advance if severe weather events or natural disasters strike.
“School holiday camping on the beach is one of the great Aussie traditions and it’s important to book early to avoid disappointment.
“The September break is a peak period for camping in the Cooloola area, with up to 5,000 campers expected these holidays.”
People travelling via the beach in the Cooloola area are required to obtain vehicle access permits and those camping in Cooloola, including Teewah Beach, Freshwater campground and Inskip Point require a QPWS camping permit.
Mr Dickson said camping and vehicle access permits could be issued over the counter at the Tewantin Information Centre, however during peak season there could be lengthy waits for customers.
“Planning ahead will save visitors the hassle of waiting in line for a permit and allow them to go straight to their campsite and start enjoying their holiday sooner,” he said.
“With high demand expected, I urge everyone planning a camping break at Cooloola to go onto the ParksQ website at www.qld.gov.au/camping or call 13 74 68 to secure a place.
More information on the Cooloola Recreation Area can be found on the National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing (NPRSR) website at www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/cooloola/.
