The Honourable Jeff Seeney
More jobs and investment are on the way for the Mary Valley with plans announced for a $7 million free-range poultry farm in Tuchekoi.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney welcomed the news after a 14-month development lease was signed with Mary Valley Chickens Pty Ltd, at Kenilworth Skyring Creek Road.
"This is great news for a community still getting back on track after the former Labor Government ripped it apart with the Traveston Dam fiasco,” Mr Seeney said.
“This brings to four the number of significant economic development projects now secured for the Mary Valley and proves the Newman Government’s commitment to restoring the community to its former glory.
“A core component of our Mary Valley Economic Development Strategy is the focus on facilitating improvement in the local economy, supporting the community and creating new jobs and productive enterprises and the latest signing is another excellent example of this.
Mr Seeney said Mary Valley Chickens proprietor Chris Freney had been in the chicken farming industry for more than 20 years and had raised chickens on various farms around Beaudesert and in northern New South Wales.
“With increasing demand for free-range poultry meat, Mr Freney has proposed establishing a free-range poultry farm in the Mary Valley with up to 300,000 birds in 10 sheds, to supply a major poultry meat processor,” he said.
“After the construction phase, it is expected the business will employ two full-time staff, two casual staff and up to an additional 12 casual staff at peak production times throughout the year.”
In another development lease signing, a couple plans to relocate and expand its existing Sunshine Coast-based ginger, taro and small crops enterprise to Mary Valley Road, Amamoor.
The couple grows and sells fresh produce for local and national markets and intends to obtain organic certification.
It’s expected two full-time jobs will be created over the period of the two-year development lease, and up to five jobs upon full production in 2016.
Around 84 full-time jobs are being created in the Mary Valley through major economic development projects.
