The Honourable Jack Dempsey

Paramedics on Moreton Island are now better equipped to respond to incidents after the opening of a $1 million state-of-the-art ambulance station.

Police and Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey said the facility provided accommodation for personnel and equipment as well as an office and casualty area.

“The new station has been built at the Tangalooma Island Resort and fits seamlessly into its new surroundings,” Mr Dempsey said.

“More than 260,000 people visit Moreton Island each year, while around 500 people live there permanently.

“This new station will enhance our paramedics’ ability to deliver timely and quality ambulance services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Member for Sandgate Kerry Millard attended the official opening of the station today.

“Last financial year Moreton Island paramedics responded to almost 400 incidents,” Ms Millard said.

“The community is very fortunate in that a large team of volunteer first responders live and work on the Island and play an integral role in the delivery of first aid.

“This new facility provides a safe and practical environment for them and our paramedics and supports the delivery of the best possible care.

“It takes a unique person to commit themselves to a profession entirely focused on helping others and this station will support personnel to provide the best possible pre-hospital medical care.”
