Minister for Police and Community Safety
The Honourable Jack Dempsey
Logan Police delve into blogosphere
Logan police are moving into the digital age with the launch of myPolice Logan at the Browns Plains Police Station this afternoon.
Police Minister Jack Dempsey said the blog was another addition to the police online network and would boost interaction between Logan police and the public by giving officers another way to keep the community informed in a timely manner.
“The blog features crime prevention tips and lets police officers interact with people who may not be able to attend Neighbourhood Watch meetings or drop into the police station to voice concerns,” Mr Dempsey said.
“Through the blog, police officers are able to share information about personal safety, keeping property secure and show comfit images or stills from CCTV to a wider audience.
“myPolice Logan is the latest arsenal in the myPolice network as we continue the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour with a police presence both online and off.
"The new community focused blog will also prove of great effectiveness in similar situations such as the floods earlier this year, in which the Logan and Albert Rivers reached major flood levels.”
Mr Dempsey said myPolice Logan joined a number of blogs released around the state including Bundaberg, South Brisbane, Dutton Park and the Gold Coast.
Logan mayor Pam Parker said the Logan City Council was extremely proud of the already strong relationship council had with police.
“We are aware that preventing, deterring and responding to crime does not rest solely with our police - it requires a collaborative and coordinated approach from all sections of the community and Council continues to demonstrate its commitment in this area,” Cr Parker said.
“The launch of the Logan myPolice blog takes that collaborative approach one step further by engaging with all sections of the community about goals achieved, highlighting news and issues, and calling on the assistance of the public when needed.
“The myPolice blog is interactive and aims to improve the quality of public information and the timeliness of such information. I congratulate Minister Dempsey for his commitment to launch this popular and proven effective blog in Logan City - I am sure it will be well-received and used by many.”
Acting Deputy Commissioner Peter Barron said the launch of myPolice Logan provided an exciting opportunity for police to engage with residents of Logan and surrounds at a digital level.
“myPolice Logan will strengthen bonds between the community and police, adding to the fantastic job police already do,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Barron said.
“Greater public awareness regarding crime and an increased willingness to report such incidents is imperative for the success of myPolice Logan.
“The immediacy of communication through the blog will allow officers to target crime and gather community feedback at a grass roots level which can only assist us in the fight against crime.
“Details of crimes, as well as photographs, comfits of offenders and CCTV footage can all be hosted on the blog immediately after an offence is reported.
“The site should be seen not only as an investigative tool but as a community engagement opportunity for officers and the public to build upon.
“Through our ongoing partnerships, we will continue our commitment to provide safe and secure communities, and we welcome feedback from the public on how to do this better.”
