The Honourable Jack Dempsey
Corrections Officers vote for new pay deal
Minister for Police and Community Safety Jack Dempsey has thanked Corrections Officers for voting in favour of a new three year pay deal.
The successful ballot was secured after months of intense negotiations between Together Queensland Industrial Union of Employees and the Queensland Government.
Mr Dempsey said the outcome was good for both the union members and the people of Queensland.
“I am pleased to announce that the Department of Community Safety and the Together Union have been successful in securing a deal delivering staff a 2.2% pay increase per annum for the Custodial Employees of Queensland Corrective Services,” Mr Dempsey said.
“This agreement has been supported by the Custodial Employees who have voted to accept the proposed agreement.
“The State Government appreciates the important role played by Corrective Services personnel to the Queensland community and is committed to revitalising frontline services to the people of Queensland.”
The ballot result means the Department and the Together Union will now make an application to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission to certify the proposed agreement.
The deal sees the Custodial Employees of Queensland Corrective Services securing the same wage increase the Queensland Police Service recently secured for its employees.
Corrections staff will receive their wage increase which will be back-dated to 01 May 2013 upon certification of the agreement.
The agreement meets the Government’s objective of ensuring negotiations achieve a responsible and affordable outcome which provides fair wages and conditions for employees whilst delivering on the Government’s priorities of rebuilding Queensland’s economy and restoring Queensland’s AAA credit rating.
