Screen Queensland fuels three major productions

Arts Minister Ian Walker today announced $1.5 million in production funding for three major film and television projects in Queensland.

Screen Queensland’s investment will trigger approximately $9.8 million worth of production with $6.7 million to be spent in the State.

“Screen Queensland has approved funding for Schapelle, a major television event; Box, a feature film drama and Open Clinic, a bold landmark factual medical series,” Mr Walker said.

Schapelle, based on the bestselling book Sins of the Father by investigative journalist Eamonn Duff, will be filmed and post-produced entirely on the Gold Coast.

Screen Queensland CEO Bryan Lowe said, “The Schapelle Corby case is one of the most controversial criminal cases to grip Australia since Lindy Chamberlain.”

“The must-see telemovie is being produced by Fremantle Media for the Nine Network.”

The three projects were given the green light by the Screen Queensland Board at its last board meeting with an additional $300,000 of support provided for TV conceptual development, production attachments and marketing, project and business development spanning a range of projects and filmmakers.

The feature film Box is from the Queensland team of producer Todd Fellman (Daybreakers, Mental), scriptwriter James Greville and award-winning short film director Tori Garret.

“The coming-of-age film set in Brisbane’s West End, tells the story of Eugene, a foster home runaway who lives secretly in the ceiling of the boxing gym where he trains,” Mr Walker said.

The third project, Open Clinic, is a six-part factual medical series from producer Veronica Fury of Wild Fury for ABC Television which features real patients and diagnostic procedures performed in front of a studio audience.

Screen Queensland supports and promotes a creative and innovative screen industry through its diverse range of screen funding programs that support both film and TV projects, as well as Screen Culture activities.
