The Honourable Tracy Davis

Sunshine Coast residents will benefit from access to better support and services thanks to a new neighbourhood centre.

Assistant Minister for Child Safety Tarnya Smith, on behalf of Communities Minister Tracy Davis, officially opened the Caloundra Community Centre today.

“The Newman Government has provided more than $2.7 million in funding for the development of this new facility and the end result is a great example of our government supporting innovation in service delivery,” Ms Smith said.

“The new purpose-built centre replaces the old house being used as a neighbourhood centre in Currimundi, and will provide a range of community services for vulnerable individuals and families.

“The new Caloundra Neighbourhood Centre features various meeting and conference rooms, family support offices, kitchen, play areas and a general store.

“The innovative building is designed with flexible spaces to meet existing and future community needs, which means even more Sunshine Coast people can access the care and support they need.”

Communities Minister Tracy Davis said the centre was a hub for the Sunshine Coast community where they could access information, counselling and support services, attend workshops and local events.

“Residents will have access to a range of activities from first aid courses to adult literacy programs that promote personal development, increase life skills and improve wellbeing and community connectedness,” Ms Davis said.

“The flexible space will also enable agencies to share facilities, and offer a meeting place for local community groups to deliver their programs.”
