Minister for Housing and Public Works
The Honourable Tim Mander

New era for RSPCA site

The future of the old RSPCA site at Fairfield has been determined, with part of the block to be kept as open space, and the rest to be sold for development.

Housing and Public Works Minister Tim Mander said the department was working closely with Brisbane City Council on the plan.

“We will incorporate around 3300 square metres into the neighbouring reserve with the Council as trustee,” Mr Mander said.

Mr Mander said Caylamax Demolition had been awarded a contract to demolish the existing buildings and had notified residents in the immediate vicinity of the scheduled works.

“Preparation and demolition works are expected to take up to eight weeks depending on the weather,” he said.

“Once the site has been cleared of its current structures, the department will arrange for the balance of the site to be put on the market through an Expression of Interest Process.”

The block has been vacant since the RSPCA relocated to its Animal Care Campus at Wacol in December 2011 after nearly 90 years at Fairfield.
