Treasurer and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Tim Nicholls

Acting Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Infrastructure and Planning, Treasurer Tim Nicholls will today open a new segment of riverside walk along Northshore Hamilton.

The new section of river walk adds to the popular parkland and pathways that form part of the Northshore Riverside Park in front of the eastern Hamilton Reach development.

Mr Nicholls, the State Member for Clayfield, said the Queensland Government delivered $1.75 million for the river walk extension and public artwork along the Hamilton Reach of the residential precinct.

“This half-kilometre stretch of new river walk is part of the delivery of a 2.5 kilometre stretch of river frontage that will progressively open to the public as Northshore is redeveloped,” Mr Nicholls said.

“It’s the first time this section of the riverfront has been accessible to the public.

“The Newman Government is proud to facilitate the construction of public infrastructure that supports private sector enterprise, including for Australand’s Hamilton Reach and other developers active in Northshore.”

Mr Nicholls said the new section of the riverside walk, as well as additions to Northshore Riverside Park, would be handed to Brisbane City Council for management.

“This project is a demonstration of how different levels of government can work together to deliver benefits for communities and stimulate economic development through private enterprise,” he said.

“Importantly, the river walk has been delivered at no cost to Queensland taxpayers, as the new infrastructure has been funded through the Northshore project budget.”

To celebrate the completion of the stretch of river walk a community event will be held today from 10am to 3pm.

A range of on-water activities, such as dragon boat and canoe demonstrations, will take place throughout the day, as well as sand sculpting and beach volleyball.

Free coffees will be on offer at the Northshore Riverside café, courtesy of Australand, and a jazz swing band will perform in the afternoon.
