SKM secures port expansion contract
Mundra: Queensland Premier Campbell Newman today (2 December) announced a major deal for Queensland company Sinclair Knight Merz to supply its engineering services to India’s Adani Group.
Speaking at a media conference at Adani Group’s port facility in Mundra, Mr Newman said Queensland companies were continuing to secure major contracts to provide mining equipment and services in the development of Adani Group’s Queensland operations.
“Sinclair Knight Merz is one of the Queensland companies that has contributed to our international status as a centre of excellence for mining, and is now providing its services in major infrastructure developments to overseas companies,” Mr Newman said.
“The company has been commissioned by Adani Group to provide engineering services for the development of the Abbot Point port expansion in Queensland, supporting Adani’s proposed plans to develop Queensland’s Galilee Basin into a leading resources hub.
“As we continue to export our resources, we are also looking to overseas investors to provide the much needed supply-chain infrastructure, supporting these exports.
“As India’s industries continue to grow, so do the opportunities for Queensland companies.”
Mr Newman touted the State’s leading export industries and investment opportunities for India’s business community, and thanked the Adani Group for its ongoing contribution to Queensland.
“India has grown to become a great friend as well as an important business partner for Queensland,” he said.
“In Queensland’s quest to export even more resources to this important region, Indian companies such as Adani Group have also chosen to invest heavily in our infrastructure, providing significant economic benefits to our regions.”
Mr Newman is currently leading a group of 76 senior business representatives on a trade mission to India, promoting Queensland’s resources, agriculture, tourism, construction and education industries.
