Government congratulates Justice Keane

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie has congratulated the Honourable Patrick Keane QC on his appointment to the High Court of Australia.

Mr Bleijie said Justice Keane, who currently heads the Federal Court of Australia, will join Justice Susan Kiefel as the second Queenslander on the bench of the High Court.

“Justice Keane was the Solicitor General of Queensland for 13 years and a judge of the Supreme Court before taking up the office of Chief Justice of the Federal Court in 2010,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Justice Keane has served both his state and country across a career spanning more than 30 years and as a respected member of the legal community his appointment is well-deserved.

“He will be the eighth Queenslander in over a century to be appointed as a High Court judge, which is a wonderful achievement.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish Justice Keane well for this next step in his already distinguished career.”
