Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing
The Honourable Steve Dickson

National Parks, Sport and Recreation Minister Steve Dickson is encouraging south east Queensland families to have some fun with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) this school holidays.

Mr Dickson said the QPWS Connect with Nature program offered a wide range of family friendly activities for people of all ages in National Parks across the south east.

“The Newman Government is committed to opening up our beautiful National Parks land for all Queensland residents and visitors to enjoy,” Mr Dickson said.

“Our Connect with Nature program is especially designed to encourage people to get out and have some fun in Queensland’s national parks this spring.

“There are so many activities that can be enjoyed in our national parks, from 4WD and bike riding, to nature walks and family picnics.

“Spring is the time for flowers and Mt Mee’s wildflowers are in full bloom. People can take a wander through this spectacular sight as part of a guided tour.

“Or a quick trip to Brookside shopping centre in Brisbane or the CBD’s Queen Street Mall will give children the chance to see, learn about and even touch some of south east Queensland’s amazing wildlife.”

Mr Dickson said many nocturnal animals were on the move during this time of year and ranger spotlighting at Archer campground or Walkabout Creek were great activities to do as a family.

Activity dates and times are available on the National Parks website at www.nprsr.qld.gov.au; or by telephoning 13 QGOV (13 74 68).

Bookings are essential and most activities are free.
