Minister for Police and Community Safety
The Honourable Jack Dempsey

Expansion to low security accommodation in Numinbah Correctional Centre

The Newman Government has made a long-term commitment to the Numinbah Correctional Centre, with $2 million to go towards the provision of more beds at the low security women’s prison.

“These works will take place throughout the next financial year with minimal disruption to the everyday running of the prison,” Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey said.

“Correctional officers at Numinbah can be assured these works will provide them with state-of-the-art working conditions.”

The expansion is part of the $58 million worth of infrastructure works taking place in Queensland prisons this year.

“The capital works program set for prisons over the next year will help ensure correctional officers are as safe as possible when on the job,” Mr Dempsey said.

“Being a correctional officer is a job which comes with inherent risks and these workers deserve to have the best possible working conditions.”

State Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates welcomed the investment in the Numinbah Correctional Centre, which she said would provide employment opportunities in the region and deliver custodial officers with better facilities.

“The Newman Government is committed to ensuring all ‘coalface’ staff have the best possible workplace the State can afford,” Ms Bates said.

“I welcome the decision to continue upgrades to frontline services in the Mudgeeraba region.”
