Facelifts for Gladstone region ambulance stations
Ambulance services in the Gladstone region are about to undergo a dramatic facelift, thanks to a $2.7 million commitment from the Newman Government.
In the 2012-13 budget, $2.4 million has been set aside to complete the replacement of the Calliope Ambulance Station on Bloomfield Street and a further $300,000 has been budgeted to begin the refurbishment the Gladstone Ambulance Station on Glenlyon Street.
“In an ever-expanding region like Gladstone, ambulance services need to continue to evolve with the population,” Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey said.
“The new Calliope station and refurbished Gladstone station will ensure our ambulance officers continue to work in stations which meet the needs of the region.
“The works in Calliope and Gladstone are just a fraction of the $51.4 million the Newman Government plans to spend on ambulance stations and vehicles over the 2012-13 financial year.”
State Member for Callide and Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said the LNP Government was working to ensure frontline staff were not saddled with out-of-date facilities and had what they need to respond to local emergencies.
“These upgrades will ensure the Gladstone region’s ambulance officers can continue to give the community the quality care it deserves,” he said.
“Queenslanders deserve to have the best emergency services available and these upgrades will help ensure frontline staff have the support they need to continue to provide outstanding services to the community.”
