Minister for Education, Training and Employment
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek today thanked Queensland teacher aides for their important work in schools across the State.

Mr Langbroek said around 14,800 teacher aides worked in the State education system, helping support the learning of many young Queenslanders.

“Teacher Aide Day is being observed across Queensland today and it is a wonderful opportunity for schools, parents, carers and the wider community to show our appreciation for the valuable work they do,” Mr Langbroek said.

“My mother was a teacher aide so I know first-hand the great work that teacher aides do to support children’s learning in the classroom.

“Teacher aides work closely with frontline teachers to help enrich the learning experience for students.

“Their day-to-day duties include finding or developing resources, setting up equipment, providing administrative support and supervising students under a teacher’s direction.

“Particularly in the early years, it is this valuable support that allows teachers to focus on what they do best – teaching – and allows students to get the most out of their learning.”

Mr Langbroek said the Newman Government was delivering on its promise to provide more teacher aide hours in Prep classrooms from the start of next year.

“In May, we announced $54 million over the next four years to provide up to 9,000 extra teacher aide hours per week in Prep classrooms across the State.

“This begins next year with 2,341 hours of additional teacher aide support in 107 schools, and will build to 9,000 hours across 600 schools over the following three years,” he said.

Mr Langbroek celebrated Teacher Aide Day with staff and students at Townsville Central State School.
