Minister for Education, Training and Employment
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek

The Newman Government has today announced it would deliver up to 220 extra kindergarten places for eight rural and regional communities by 2014.

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said three new kindergartens would be built on state school sites at Peak Crossing, near Ipswich, Mareeba and Mitchell in 2013.

“The Newman Government is committed to ensuring all Queensland children can enjoy the lifelong benefits of a quality kindergarten program, whether they live in the city or in the bush,” Mr Langbroek said.

“Each service will offer a kindergarten program for up to 22 children as well as other early childhood services tailored to the needs of each community.

“We will also expand kindergarten places at existing early childhood education and care services in Mackay South, Miles and Chinchilla in 2013 and in Emerald in 2014.

“Up to 22 extra places will be provided in Miles and Chinchilla and up to 44 places in Mackay South and Emerald.”

Mr Langbroek said these locations had been chosen because of the ongoing demand for kindergarten places.

“Research shows that children who participate in a quality early childhood education program are better prepared to start school,” he said.

“As the Minister for Education I want to see all Queensland children experience these benefits and get the best possible start in life.”
