The Honourable Ros Bates
Arts Minister Ros Bates today welcomed the cast and crew of Jersey Boys –The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons to Brisbane for the much anticipated season of the show at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
“Jersey Boys –The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons has been one of the most popular musicals in recent history. More than one million people have seen the show in Melbourne and Sydney, and more than 14 million people worldwide,” Ms Bates said.
“This multi-award winning musical is another highlight on Queensland’s rapidly expanding cultural calendar for winter and spring,” she said.
“It joins the Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado, The Hamburg Season as part of the QPAC International Series and The Queensland Museum’s Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb which has been extended until 21 October due to popular demand.
“This production has won Helpmann Awards for Best Musical and Best Music Direction of a Musical, and seven Victorian Green Room Awards.
“Jersey Boys –The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons is already making its own mark with QPAC having to release more tickets for the show due to demand.
“Visiting productions like this one boost Brisbane’s reputation as a place to see the best arts and culture and help deliver on the LNP Government’s plan to get Queensland back on track by building on the state’s reputation as a cultural hub.”
Jersey Boys is the story of four blue collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who become one of the biggest American pop sensations of all time. Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi joined forces to become The Four Seasons, writing their own hits and developing their unique sound to sell more than 175 million records before they were 30.
It features 20 hit songs including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Rag Doll, Oh What a Night and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. It is the 19th longest-running show on Broadway in the US and has won four Tony Awards.
“I am also pleased to welcome home Glaston Toft who plays the role of Nick Massi. Toft hails from Raceview in Ipswich,” said Ms Bates.
“It is great to see homegrown talent doing so well in first-class productions such as this.”
