Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services
The Honourable Tracy Davis
Disability homes boost for Queensland
New homes will be built and 27 properties modified to provide more support to people with disabilities who have complex behaviour support needs, thanks to $3 million in funding from the Newman Government.
Disability Services Minister Tracy Davis said the government was working in partnership with Multicap, Centacare and Trinity Disability Support Service to deliver new and improved supported accommodation facilities for people who exhibit extremely challenging behaviour.
“As part of the Positive Futures initiative, the Newman Government is providing $3.2 million for a capital works program for stable and secure accommodation for some of our most vulnerable clients,” Ms Davis said.
“This includes three new housing projects which will give our clients a new start by providing emergency and long-term community-based accommodation options in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.
“The funding will also be used for modifications to properties across Queensland to make sure these homes best meet the needs of our clients by providing suitable and safe living environments.”
A further $6 million will be allocated during the 2012-13 financial year as part of this program.
Ms Davis said the Newman Government was proud to work in partnership with non-government organisations such as Multicap, Centacare and Trinity Disability Support Service to deliver these important frontline services.
“These supported accommodation facilities provide a positive outcome for Queenslanders with a disability, especially those with challenging or complex behaviours,” she said.
The Positive Futures initiative provides improved quality of life for adults with an intellectual or cognitive disability who exhibit challenging behaviours through positive behaviour support.
