Premier
The Honourable Campbell Newman
Community Cabinet comes to Townsville
The first Community Cabinet of the LNP Government will be held in Townsville, Premier Campbell Newman announced today.
Mr Newman said as the second capital of Queensland, Townsville was the ideal place to hold the first Community Cabinet.
“We know that Townsville plays an important role in our State’s economy. It is home to many key Queensland industries, including agriculture, tourism and mining,” Mr Newman said.
“The people of Townsville will be able to meet with members of the LNP Cabinet and tell us directly their concerns and what is important to them.
“I am whole-heartedly committed to ensuring all Queenslanders are given the opportunity to participate in the state’s future direction and growth.
“We have a lot of work to do to get Queensland back on track, but we can’t do it alone, which is why it’s so important to listen to people from all over the state.
“By doing this, we are ensuring that Queenslanders will power Queensland again, not politics.”
Mr Newman said Cabinet’s visit to the region coincided with the Townsville Show and that he and his Ministers were looking forward to being able to meet with those people who live in Townsville, as well as those who have travelled from outlying areas for the Show.
Minister for Local Government and Member for Mundingburra David Crisafulli MP welcomed the announcement.
“The four Townsville Members lobbied hard for community cabinet to be held in the city, and this shows that we’re giving the local area a real voice in parliament,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“Under an LNP Government, Townsville will no longer be ignored like it was by Labor.”
Sam Cox MP (Thuringowa), John Hathaway MP (Townsville) and Rosemary Menkens MP (Burdekin) encouraged individuals and organisations to get involved and contribute to a range of key issues and policies affecting their part of Queensland.
All nineteen members of the Cabinet will travel to Townsville.
Community Cabinet will be held on Sunday 1st July and Monday 2nd of July in Townsville.
Ministers will be available for individual meetings with individuals and organisations on Sunday 1 July from 2pm – 4pm at Townsville PCYC, Wellington St, Aitkenvale. Registration commences at 1pm. Cabinet will meet on Monday at the Townsville Show.
