The Honourable Neil Roberts
Police Minister Neil Roberts and Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson today joined local police officers, Members of Parliament and residents at the official opening of the refurbished Pine Rivers District Police Office.
Mr Roberts said the State Government had provided $2.5 million towards the works, which has seen the facility on the corner of Old Dayboro Road and Connors Street renovated as a purpose-built District Headquarters which housed a range of specialist police teams
“These improvements to the Pine Rivers District Office will allow local officers to continue delivering effective police services to local communities, but will also offer leadership, education and support services to the police officers who work within the wider District.
“The refurbishments include the construction of a Major Incident Facility, to be used for major incidents, investigations or events within the District.
“The modern open-plan facility can also be used for training purposes and conferences.
“The completion of this important community project delivers on an election commitment made in 2009 and I’m really pleased to now have this facility up and running in the Pine Rivers District.”
The District Office also includes a District Tactician, Education and Training Officers, Crime Prevention Officers, Domestic Violence Officer and a Senior Police Liaison Officer and is lead by Superintendant Des Lacy.
Commissioner Atkinson thanked Superintendant Lacy for his ongoing leadership to the Pine Rivers District since being promoted in October 2011.
“Superintendant Lacy has had 37 years with the Queensland Police Service and brings a wealth of experience to his new role, particularly from his last position as Inspector for the Southern Divisions of the Gold Coast Police District,” Commissioner Atkinson said.
“The new District Office facilities will aid and reinforce police officers, from Constables to Commissioned Officers, as they perform their varied daily duties with professionalism, skill and dedication.”
Ms O’Neill said local residents would be glad to see the completion of this important community project.
“These refurbishments will strengthen foundations for local crime and safety prevention strategies as well as police investigations, while continuing to build proactive relationships between the QPS and the local community.
“It’s a great boost of police resourcing in our area.”
Carolyn Male MP said a police facility had first opened at the site in December 1965, originally as a combined police station and court house.
“Over the years, we have subsequently seen the construction of the new Petrie Police Station across the road as well as the recent completion of the state of the art court house and watch house facility opened in Strathpine in 2008.
“The completion of this project is another example of the Government’s commitment to residents in the Pine Rivers area.”
Mr Wells said continued investment in the high-growth Pine Rivers area was important.
“The Pine Rivers District is the third largest growth area in Australia with projected population increases of around 14 percent.”
“With these population increases comes the need for additional policing and detention facilities and improved modern infrastructure and the Government is committed to continuing to support the QPS in this regard in the future.”
