The Honourable Paul Lucas

Gold Coast community groups will welcome the year ahead with a kick start, sharing in more than $700,000 in State Government grants.

Attorney-General Paul Lucas today announced 30 organisations across the Gold Coast would receive a total of $720,299 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

He said the Gambling Community Benefit Fund distributes the grants to Gold Coast community organisations most in need.

“In this latest round of grants, 599 state-wide organisations will receive a financial helping hand totalling $11,866,615 million to carry out their valuable roles,” Mr Lucas said.

“Thanks to these grants, community groups can rest easy knowing they can fund important projects in the busy year ahead.

“These organisations are responsible for providing support at the grass roots level, including sporting clubs, volunteer groups, not-for-profit organisations, seniors groups, Surf Life Saving clubs and Parents and Citizens associations.

“They provide a range of recreational services and facilities and are on hand to provide emotional and financial support to Queenslanders in the direst of situations.

“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund offers grants of up to $35,000 to assist community organisations throughout Queensland to meet the ongoing demand for their services.

“I am sure these grants will be particularly welcome after a difficult year of natural disasters.”

Since the Gambling Community Benefit Fund started in 1994, 39,482 applicants have been funded more than $503 million.
