Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
State Emergency Service renews fundraising partnership with BCF
The highly successful partnership between Queensland’s State Emergency Service (SES) and retailer Boating Camping Fishing (BCF) will continue for a second year.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts and BCF Manager Ben McConnell today officially signed a new agreement that will continue to benefit SES volunteers in the field.
“The Department of Community Safety is delighted to work with an organisation like BCF that understands the importance of volunteering and community safety,” Mr Roberts said.
“Over the past year, BCF has actively supported the SES through educating and informing the public about how they can be better prepared for events such as floods and storms.
“BCF’s ongoing ‘Round Up for SES’ initiative involves giving their customers the option to make donations by rounding up their payment on purchases.
“The initiative has raised more $100,000 since March last year, which has enabled the SES to purchase equipment that will further enhance its flood and storm response capabilities.”
Mr McConnell said BCF had been working closely with the SES to help provide funding and attract more volunteers to the organisation, and the outdoor retailer’s team was really getting behind the initiative.
“The BCF ‘Round Up for SES’ initiative involves dedicated BCF team members across our 26 Queensland stores asking customers if they would like to round-up their purchase price to an even dollar figure – to any value they nominate – providing a donation to Queensland SES,” Mr McConnell said.
“Our customers at the BCF Cannon Hill and Gladstone stores have led the way by contributing significantly to the overall donations, highlighting their strong community commitment and proving that every donation helps,” he said.
Mr Roberts said the generous response by customers to the initiative illustrated Queenslanders’ high level of community spirit and their appreciation of SES volunteers.
“This community partnership with BCF has enabled the SES to purchase more than 200 advanced flood/storm deployment backpacks that will be distributed to teams across Queensland,” he said.
“SES volunteers readily put themselves on the frontline for the well-being of others.
“Already this year, they have answered the call to a number of extreme situations, including the recent floods in western and central Queensland and Tropical Cyclone Ului, which affected northern and central parts of the state.
“We look forward to continuing to work together with BCF in the future to further benefit SES volunteers.”
People throughout Queensland are able to donate money to the SES at any BCF store simply by rounding-up the value of their transaction to any price they nominate.
BCF is also serving an important role in raising awareness of the SES, encouraging volunteering through their extensive customer network and playing host to local SES fundraising, demonstrations and recruitment events.
