Deputy Premier and Minister for Health
The Honourable Paul Lucas

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health Paul Lucas today said work is continuing seven days a week to sort out issues relating to the rollout of Queensland Health’s new payroll system.

Mr Lucas met with Queensland Health officials and representatives of KPMG this morning, as he did yesterday, to oversee progress in fixing any pay issues.

“They’ve told me a very large amount of work has gone into fixing back pay issues but we will not have all the issues fixed for the next pay cycle,” Mr Lucas said.

“They have put particular effort into issues with pay for part time and casuals as these staff were most affected by low or non pays.

“Not only have they been going through repeat checking processes, but they have told me they will have extra contingency plans in place if there are any reduced pay issues.

“Additionally, I am advised the next pay run will address most of the back pay issues under the previous cycles in the new system, but there will still be some adjustments in future pay runs,” he said.

Queensland Health put the pays to its banker on Tuesday night. From there is goes into workers’ bank accounts, in accordance with normal bank processing times.

Director-General of Queensland Health Mick Reid said support will be available for any staff member who is adversely affected by the upcoming pay cycle.

“We will have support in the form of cheques from payroll offices, cash payments and manual processing of pays if anyone is left out of pocket - we will do whatever it takes to make sure our staff are assisted,” Mr Reid said.

“Of course our hotline will still be available to help anyone in need, 3636 0737, staff will also be able to access information about interpreting their new payslip as well.

“Along with issues relating to the new pay system, work continues clearing a backlog of adjustments with the previous lattice payroll system.

“While great effort has gone into making sure we are working to a better result from this pay cycle, we must be frank in telling our staff we do not expect it to be perfect.

“For this we apologise and will continue to strive to make this payroll system work for our hardworking staff members,” he said.
