Queenslanders are encouraged to kick start a healthier lifestyle and break those bad habits with a Find Your 30 New Year’s resolution.

Acting Sport Minister Karen Struthers said the New Year was the perfect time to set new exercise routines and eating habits to prepare for a healthier future.

“The Find Your 30 campaign encourages Queenslanders to fit 30 minutes of physical activity into their day and make healthier food choices,” she said.

“At least 30 minutes of activity each day combined with healthy eating is a resolution that requires some commitment, but will provide so many health benefits as well as reducing the risk of serious health-related illnesses.”

Ms Struthers said two common New Year’s resolutions were to lose weight or to exercise more often.

“But for a workout plan to succeed, it’s important to make physical exercise part of a regular routine rather than a short-term solution,” she said.

“Its important to realise that kilos won’t come off within the first clutch of a dumbbell.

“To achieve life long benefits, Queenslanders are encouraged to find their 30 minutes of physical activity every day, so that fitness becomes a routine rather than just another resolution.”

Ms Struthers said to help get Queenslanders motivated, the Find Your 30 website at www.your30.com.au had some tips and easy tools.

“The website has some great ideas to help you set clear goals, plan healthy meals and create opportunities for being active,” Ms Struthers said.

“Under Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative, the Bligh Government’s goal was to make Queenslanders Australia’s healthiest people.

“By deciding to make healthy resolutions that include 30 minutes of activity every day and choosing healthy eating options, you are not only setting yourself up for a healthy 2010, but for many years to follow as well.”
