The Honourable Craig Wallace

Tugun Bypass post construction noise report released

The results of an independent post construction noise report on the Tugun Bypass were released today (Thursday 29 October) by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said the independent report verified the accuracy of measures taken to reduce the impact of road traffic noise from the Tugun Bypass on properties in surrounding neighbourhoods.

“The report shows the noise mitigation treatments, put in place before the bypass opened to traffic, reduce the impact of road traffic noise on surrounding properties to the department’s criteria,” Mr Wallace said.

“This independent report is the result of two years of detailed and complex traffic noise assessments.

“This means the accuracy of noise modelling predictions carried out before construction of the bypass, has been verified by post construction noise assessment.

“This assessment has been carried out by an independent acoustic consultant to ensure that appropriate treatments were carried out to mitigate noise.”

Mr Wallace said noise barriers were installed and eligible properties were provided with in-house treatments such as air-conditioning, so windows and doors could be closed to reduce noise entering dwellings.

“The post construction noise monitoring report confirms these treatments were adequate to reduce road traffic noise to within the department’s criteria,” he said.

“These noise assessments are complex and time consuming and I appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while we ensured a thorough and accurate reporting process.”
