Minister for Main Roads
The Honourable Craig Wallace

Brisbane Valley Highway upgrade begins near Fairney Brook

Work is underway this month to upgrade a vital link of the Brisbane Valley Highway south of Fernvale.

Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace said the $1.24 million project would improve safety and traffic efficiency, and cater for future traffic growth in the area.

“This important project will improve safety by making the road surface smoother for motorists on this increasingly busy link through the Brisbane Valley area,” Mr Wallace said.

“The project will upgrade one kilometre of the Brisbane Valley Highway at the Fairney Brook section, approximately two kilometres south of Fernvale.

“Works include providing two 3.5-metre traffic lanes with 1.5-metre sealed shoulders to help ease congestion in the area.

“This section of road currently carries approximately 7,200 vehicles a day, including 10 per cent heavy vehicles, and is continually growing.”

Mr Wallace said planning for the future and managing the impact of growth was one of the department’s top priorities.

“This upgrade ensures we preserve this section of the highway to meet the needs of current and future traffic volumes.

“We are pleased to be able to provide these important safety works to the community and keep road users connected along this key route.”

Motorists should expect short delays while the works are in progress.

“Main Roads thanks motorists for their patience during these works,” Mr Wallace said.

“I would also like to remind everyone to please slow down – roadwork safety is your responsibility too.”
