Lawrence Springborg's promise to cut $1 billion from the public sector

without cutting jobs and frontline services has been exposed as sham,

Treasurer Andrew Fraser said today.

"The Western Australian Government has today admitted that it is totally

impossible to achieve the same objective in their own budget this year -

despite pledging to do so during their own election campaign last year,’’ Mr Fraser said.

"If you need proof that the Queensland National's $1 billion cut is

going to cut jobs - here it is.

"Western Australia promised to do it - and look at the result - they are

admitting that it is totally impossible.

"These are the facts - you can not find those savings without sacking

public servants, cutting pay packets and destroying people's livelihood.

"The people of Queensland just can't risk the Nationals.

"The bottom line is that we've got a plan to protect jobs and essential

services - Lawrence Springborg's only plan is to cut jobs.''
