Treasurer Andrew Fraser today said the latest report from the AMA confirms the National Party’s three per cent cuts will hurt sick Queenslanders.

"The AMA wants more money for health - they should be standing up against Lawrence Springborg's plan to cut $260 million from the health budget.

“This would mean 34,210 fewer elective surgery procedures, or 3,700 fewer staff, or 530 fewer hospital beds.

“This is the investment Queenslanders would get from a Springborg Government.

“They’d also get more bureaucracy, and volunteers replacing frontline health staff.

“The AMA has called for an investment in Health and the Bligh Government’s record is an $8.35 billion health budget.

“The AMA has acknowledged the inroads this funding is making but we know we need to do more.

“That is why we are getting on with the job of building and rebuilding hospitals across the state, of recruiting more staff, delivering more elective surgeries and opening more beds.

“That’s our record.”
