The Honourable Paul Lucas

Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, Paul Lucas said the money the Leader of the Opposition wants to spend by scrapping the Traveston Dam is already allocated.

Mr Lucas said that under the Leader of the Opposition’s own water policy, he said he would replace Traveston Dam with a $1.2 billion desalination plant on Bribie Island.

“The Leader of the Opposition has created a massive black hole in his own budget,” Mr Lucas said.

“He’s already spent the $727 million package he announced yesterday,” Mr Lucas said.

“Mr Springborg said he would pay for his package by scrapping the Traveston Dam crossing and cutting Government waste (otherwise known as cutting jobs).

“He can’t fund his infrastructure promises because he’s already spent that money on a desalination plant and other water projects.

“It simply doesn’t add up. He can’t do the maths. He doesn’t have the money.

“Queenslanders can’t afford Mr Springborg – he’ll ramp up taxes to pay for his reckless, unfunded promises.

“He needs to explain to Queenslanders where the money for his promises is really coming from,” Mr Lucas said.
