A hungry Queensland Bulls outfit has a great record against the Victorian Bushrangers and another against-the-odds Sheffield Shield win beckons, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said today,

“In February the Bulls stunned all with a come-from-behind win in the one-day Ford Ranger Cup at the MCG and today they start the five-day Shield Final as underdogs at Melbourne’s Junction Oval,” said Ms Bligh.

“There’s nothing like Queenslanders playing away and being the underdog to motivate us to victory.

“Chris Simpson and his team go with all of our best wishes, but there’s one Bull who especially deserves to finish his great career a winner.

“Martin Love was there at the Gabba in the 1994-95 final when the Bulls had their first ever Shield win, scoring 146.

“He is an institution and another Shield win would be the best farewell gift for this great Bulls servant,” she said.

“The Bulls beat the Bushrangers in 2005 when we last won the Shield final.

“Including the historic 94-95 win the Bulls have won the Shield six times, having played Victoria four times for three wins – including one in Melbourne (03-04).

“The Bulls have been achievers this year and a win is on the cards.

“The Brisbane Lions threepeat of AFL premierships and the Bulls 03-04 win at the MCG show our form is that of a winner when in Melbourne.

“Best of luck to Chris Simpson and the team and remember all of Queensland is with you,” said the Premier.
