The Honourable Anna Bligh
Premier Anna Bligh has thanked all involved in the emergency response to former Tropical Cyclone Hamish.
The cyclone warning and watch have now been cancelled.
“From the Far North to the Sunshine Coast hundreds of thousands of Queenslanders have been on alert.
“Many of them have had their work and families disrupted.
“The images of emergency workers sandbagging and ambulance officers shifting the elderly to safety has been a regular this year, but the workers and the volunteers just keep turning up and offering a helping hand.
“Thanks again to our emergency response workers, especially the volunteers,” she said.
The Premier said that while the cyclone warning had been cancelled a separate Severe Weather Warning has been issued for damaging winds, abnormally high tides and dangerous surf for coastal and island communities between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta.
“Please keep listening to your local news radio for updates and any further warnings,” she said.
More than 315 SES calls have been made to 132 500 in the 48 hours to 11.30am today. More than 105 at Hervey Bay and 70 at Bundaberg/Burnett.
