Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
“At no stage have I said Ferguson was not a threat to the community”, Police Minister Judy Spence said today.
“The Courier Mail issued a correction to Saturday's article today on page 20.” said Ms Spence.
“I believe pedophiles like Ferguson do have to be monitored because of the potential risk they may re-offend.
“This is why we have introduced the toughest laws and toughest monitoring regime in Australia,” Ms Spence said.
Ms Spence said: “The Government considers all pedophiles to be a potential risk after they have been released from prison by the courts.”
“It is because we recognise legitimate concerns about pedophiles that Police continue to monitor them under the Australian National Child Offender Register (ANCOR) Ms Spence said.
“This Government introduced the Dangerous Prisoners Sexual Offenders Act, The Child Protection Offender Reporting Act, The Child Protection Offender Prohibition Order Act, enhanced parole & probation systems and public disclosure provisions for police and correctives services officers to utilise to monitor paedophiles post-release.
